Neil smiled as he felt the heat rise in his face. He could picture it turning pink.
“Well I guess you could consider it my contribution to the arts.”
“That’s mighty wide of you. Would you just kiss me please?” Shauna was shaking, not solely because the water was truly damn cold, but also from the anticipation. Neil did not know that she had dreamt of this moment for a very long time.
“Since you said please.” Neil’s voice trailed off as he got to the last word. It was barely audible and his lips were now next to Shauna’s. Close enough to feel each others breath if in fact either one of them were breathing at the moment.
The jokes made an awkward situation easier, but it was now time for the jokes to stop. Neil looked into Shauna’s sky blue eyes and almost forgot what he was supposed to do. He flinched slightly when Shauna drew herself towards him. Her lips touched his. From that point on it was pure instinct. There was nothing anxious or clumsy about their kiss. It was soft and sweet. Perfection.
It endured until Shauna pulled away. Neil opened his eyes and saw that Shauna’s were still closed. There was an expression of satisfaction on her face that closely resembled the expression she had after eating the ice cream cone. She opened her eyes and smiled.
“You would be a great actor you know it?” Shauna informed Neil.
“Who was acting?”
“What’s that old cliché, practice makes perfect?”
